Vitality Drive gives you:

  • Up to 50% back on your Gautrain spend and BP and Shell fuel spend every month for driving well
  • Weekly Active Rewards for meeting your personalised drive goal. You'll earn Discovery Miles to spend on exciting rewards such as coffees, smoothies, shopping and travel vouchers and more for achieving your weekly drive goal.

  • Visit our website for more about Vitality Drive or download information on how to earn Vitality Drive points and rewards

To get started on Vitality Drive:

  1. Install your Vitality Drive Sensor at your nearest Tiger Wheel & Tyre or Discovery Drive Centre and download the Discovery Insure app. You need to link your Discovery Insure app to your Vitality Drive Sensor to start measuring your driving behaviour.
  2. Link your Vitality Drive and Gautrain cards on the app or on https://www.discovery.co.za/
  3. Swipe your Vitality Drive card when you fill up at a participating BP or Shell service station, and earn fuel cash back on your Gautrain spend. You can get up to 50% back on spend each month.

If you insure your motorcycle with Discovery Insure, you have the option to select the Vitality Drive programme and get rewarded for your motorcycle riding behaviour.

The Vitality Drive programme for motorcycles differs from the standard Vitality Drive programme, depending on whether you have a comprehensively insured car on your Discovery Insure plan or whether the only vehicle you insure on the Discovery Insure plan is your motorcycle.

If your motorcycle is insured with other vehicles
You can select the Vitality Drive programme for motorcycles if you have activated Vitality Drive on your Discovery Insure plan. Vitality Drive for motorcycles is optional, even if Vitality Drive is activated on the Discovery Insure plan. You can add a motorcycle to your Vitality Drive programme on the fuel rewards and Drive Your Discount reward options, if you have other vehicles on your policy.

If your motorcycle is the only vehicle insured
You can join Vitality Drive Fuel Rewards for R75.50 a month for each primary driver if your only vehicle is a motorcycle and you have insured your household contents or buildings for at least R300,000. You cannot join Vitality Drive through Drive your Discount if you only insure your motorcycle.

Vitality Drive costs R25 for each primary driver a month.

Vitality Drive status and points

With Vitality Drive, you can earn up to 3,000 Vitality Drive points every month. You earn Vitality Drive points by driving well, improving your driving behaviour, and making sure your vehicles are safe to drive.

At the end of each month, you'll earn a Vitality Drive status based on your Vitality Drive points. As you earn more points, you'll progress through the statuses: Blue, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond.

The more Vitality Drive points you earn, the higher your Vitality Drive status and the more rewards you get.

Vitality Drive status Vitality Drive points needed
Blue 0 - 799
Bronze 800 - 1,599
Silver 1,600 - 2,199
Gold 2,200 - 2,499
Diamond 2,500 - 3,000

You can earn up to 3,000 Vitality Drive points every month for driving well, improving your driving behaviour and by making sure your vehicles are safe to drive.

Read about how to earn and maximise your Vitality Drive points.

Your Vitality Drive points should reflect within seven days of your vehicle passing the Annual MultiPoint check. If your points have not been awarded within this timeframe, please email us at vitalitydriveinfo@discovery.co.za

View your Vitality Drive dashboard and rewards summary dashboard online or on the Discovery app. Vitality Drive points may take up to 2 weeks to reflect.

If you are the listed primary driver of more than one vehicle then the following rules will apply:

  • You will receive a maximum of 60 Drive points each day if you have the Vitality Drive Sensor and 50 Drive points if you have the standalone DQ-Track.
  • Driving events from all vehicles will be deducted from the daily Drive points allocation. This means that if you drive more than one vehicle on the same day, points will be deducted based on your driving behaviour from all vehicles.
  • If multiple vehicles are driven at the same time, Drive points from all trips will be deducted from your daily Drive points allocation.
  • You need to have a working device in all vehicles for which you are listed as a primary driver.
  • To qualify for a no-drive day, none of your vehicles must have been driven on that day.

In months where there are 31 days, Drive points will contribute towards your Driving Profile up to a maximum of 1,800 Vitality Drive points if you have the Vitality Drive Sensor or 1,500 Vitality Drive points if you have the standalone DQ-Track. You therefore have an extra day to maximise your Driving Profile.

In February, we will allocate two bonus days of Drive points, equal to your average daily Drive points over the past 30 days (or one bonus day when it is a leap year).

As a client on the Core Plan, you qualify for the 50% upfront discount on the ChatBack licensing service fee and the guaranteed 0% renewal increase on your vehicle premium when you consistently achieve Diamond status on Vitality Drive. If you have the Discovery Insure Vehicle Warranty, then you can get an upfront discount on vehicle servicing with Motus or Bosch. You will not have any other Vitality Drive status based benefits.

Yes, you will have a Drive ring every week. If you achieve your goal, then you will earn a play on the Vitality Active Rewards gameboard.

No, you do not need to install a telematics device. All your driving behaviour will be monitored using your cellphone and the Discovery Insure app.

Yes, this will be used to monitor your driving. You will get Drive points based on how you drive.

The Vitality Drive points structure on the Core Plan is identical to the points structure that is already in place for other plans. Since we can monitor cellphone use on your phone, you will be able to earn up to 3,000 Vitality Drive points every month.

Fuel cashback and IFA

With the Vitality Drive programme, you can get up to 50% of your bp and Shell fuel and Gautrain spend back every month. The percentage you get depends on your plan type, whether you have home insurance, whether your vehicle has passed the Annual MultiPoint check and whether you've added home insurance of at least R300,000 to your plan.

You can download more information about Vitality Drive and how to increase your cash back.

With the Vitality Drive fuel cash back option, you can get up to 50% of your bp and Shell fuel and Gautrain spend back every month for driving well.

Your fuel cash back is calculated using your Vitality Drive status percentage, which depends on your Vitality Drive status for the previous month, your Discovery Insure plan type and whether you have home insurance of at least R300 000; along with your total Vitality Drive points as follows:

Vitality Drive status % x the lower of (Vitality Drive points earned in the previous month OR the total fuel spend in the current month).

For more information on how to get to the highest cash back percentage, click here.

If you're not getting your fuel cash back:

  • Visit the Vitality dashboard on our website to check that you have a Vitality Drive telematics device installed and that it's working correctly.
  • Visit our website to check that your Vitality Drive card is linked to your plan.
  • Make sure you've got the latest version of the Discovery Insure app and that it's linked to your Vitality Drive Sensor.
  • Accept all permissions for the Discovery Insure app.
  • Check that your phone's Bluetooth, mobile and cellular data are on.
  • If you have an Android device, turn on GPS and location services and make sure high accuracy mode is on. Deactivate mock location services and battery saver mode.
  • If you have an iOS device, turn on location services and switch on background app refresh for the Discovery Insure app.
  • Swipe your Vitality Drive card every time you fill up at a BP or Shell service station.

If this doesn't help, or if you have a standalone DQ-Track, please speak to your financial adviser or call us on 0860 751 751.

Discovery Insure clients who have comprehensive vehicle insurance and Vitality Drive fuel cash back rewards, have access to the Insure Funder Account. If you choose to have your Vitality Drive fuel cash back paid into your Insure Funder Account, Discovery Insure will match your contribution, so you get double the amount.

With the Insure Funder Account, you can:

  • Pay the excess for any vehicle or hired vehicle on your plan
  • Reduce your vehicle insurance premium by increasing your excess
  • Fund up to 100% of your new tyres from Tiger Wheel & Tyre
  • Withdraw up to 50% of your Insure Funder Account balance in cash any time after the first 3 years of your plan.

You can download more information about the Insure Funder Account.

You can switch your fuel cash back to an Insure Funder Account on our website. If you select the Insure Funder Account, the fuel cash back earned by all primary drivers on your plan will be doubled and paid into your Insure Funder Account.

You can see your fuel rewards or Insure Funder Account balance here.

Your monthly fuel cash back is directly linked to your Vitality Drive status, so the better you drive, the more Vitality Drive points you earn, the higher your status.

You can earn up to 3,000 Vitality Drive points every month and, with up to 50% back on your fuel spend, you can get a maximum of R1,500 back every month. See how you can maximise your fuel cash back here.

Yes, you can switch between getting your fuel rewards paid into your premium paying bank account and having them doubled and added to your Insure Funder Account on a monthly basis. Call us on 0860 751 751 to switch between these two reward options.

There are no fuel rewards on the Core Plan.

Since there are no fuel rewards on the Core Plan, you will not have access to an Insure Funder Account.

Vitality Drive card

You'll get your Vitality Drive card when you pick up your Vitality Drive Sensor or install your Crowd Search Sensor at Tiger Wheel & Tyre or your nearest Discovery Drive Centre. If you install a standalone DQ-Track, you'll get your card from the technician when they install the device. You can collect a replacement Vitality Drive card from your nearest Tiger Wheel & Tyre or Discovery Drive Centre.

When and how you receive your Vitality Drive card depends on the DQ-Track option you chose:

  • With the smartphone-enabled DQ-Track, you will get your Vitality Drive card in your welcome pack when you pick up your Vitality Drive Sensor at Tiger Wheel & Tyre or your nearest Discovery Drive Centre (You will not qualify for fuel rewards on Drive your Discount, so you will not receive a Vitality Drive card when you install a smartphone-enabled DQ-Track device).
  • If you chose the standalone DQ-Track, you will receive your card from the technician on the day of your installation appointment.

Once you have your Vitality Drive card and have linked it to your Plan, all you have to do is swipe it at BP or Shell service stations when you fill up to earn your fuel rewards.

Replacement Vitality Drive cards are available at your nearest Tiger Wheel & Tyre branch or Discovery Drive Centre.

Vitality Car Rating

The Vitality Car Rating is a market-first approach that measures your vehicle's condition through Vitality Drive's advanced telematics and your insurance history. By analysing your vehicle's information, accident history, and your driving behaviour, the Vitality Car Rating aims to reduce information gaps in the second-hand vehicle market. This will help sellers get more value from their vehicles and will allow buyers to make more informed decisions by seeing the vehicle's true condition. With the Vitality Car Rating, you can get a boost of up to 15% on your car's retail value when you decide to sell it.

Boost calculation

Your Vitality Car Rating is based on your Vitality Car Score, which is out of 1,000. This is calculated based on three categories:

  1. Accident history (500 points)
Your accident points start at 500 points and decrease based on claims. These points will be deducted depending on the type of severity of the claim. These points cannot be earned again once deducted and the lowest score a vehicle can achieve is 0.

    Severity of claims
Points are deducted according to the severity of the accident, categorised as:

    • Minor: These are claims resulting in minimal damage, typically affecting cosmetic parts, which may incur lower deductions.
    • Moderate: These are claims involving more significant damage to parts, including some mechanical components, which lead to moderate deductions.
    • Severe: These are claims involving extensive damage to the vehicle's framework, mechanics, chassis, or machinery, which will result in more severe deductions.

    Parts affected
Each claim is assessed based on the specific parts involved:

    • Cosmetic parts: These include components that affect the vehicle's appearance but do not impact its functionality. Deductions for cosmetic damage are generally lower.
    • Framework and mechanical parts: These include components that are structural or essential to the functioning of the vehicle. Deductions for these parts are higher due to their impact on the vehicle's safety and performance.
  2. Driving behaviour (400 points)
Your points for driving behaviour are calculated based on the standardised number of driving events per 100 km driven for acceleration, braking, cornering and speeding. This score is calculated independently of your Vitality Drive status, which means that it may not reflect your Vitality Drive status. This score is a comprehensive view of your entire driving behaviour history.
  3. Mileage type (100 points)
Your mileage type score depends on the type of road you drive on most often. City driving causes more damage to your vehicle compared to highway driving because of the frequent stops and starts.

If a vehicle has multiple claims, each claim will be scored separately and deducted from your accident history score.

Your vehicle will be subject to the duration pro-rata for the proportion of time that your vehicle was enrolled in the Vitality Drive programme, even if the vehicle has left and rejoined the programme.

Your Vitality Car Rating boost is based on your Vitality Car Score. You can qualify for a boost of up to 15% based on the below:

  • 901 - 1,000: 15% boost
  • 801 - 900: 10% boost
  • 701 - 800: 7.5% boost
  • 601 - 700: 5% boost
  • 501 - 600: 2.5% boost
  • 0 - 500: 2% boost

This boost is limited to R50,000.

Yes. The boost is limited to 15% of the base resale value of the vehicle, with a maximum cash value of R50,000.

The Vitality Car Rating boost depends on how long your vehicle is on Vitality Drive and the quality of data that we receive from your vehicle while driving. Therefore, the following two factors will be used to prorate your Vitality Car Rating boost:

Duration pro-rata

Your Vitality Car Rating boost will be prorated based on the proportion of your vehicle's lifetime that it has been enrolled in Vitality Drive. The enrolment period will be calculated from the start and end dates of your vehicle being on the programme. This may differ from the amount of time that you, as a client, spent on the programme if you changed vehicles while on Vitality Drive. For example, if a five-year-old vehicle has been in the programme for four years, the duration pro-rata would be 80%.

For most vehicles, the vehicle's lifetime will be assumed to start on 1 July of the year of manufacture and the Vitality Car Rating boost will be prorated based on this start date. For vehicles that are new when they join Discovery Insure, the vehicle's lifetime is assumed to begin on the cover start date.

Coverage ratio pro-rata

Your Vitality Car Rating boost will be prorated based on the quality of driving data received from your Vitality Drive telematics device. Your coverage ratio is the proportion of time your vehicle's sensor and your phone were linked and providing data to Discovery Insure. For example, a client who does not turn on Bluetooth while driving will have a low coverage ratio compared to a client who always turns on Bluetooth and makes sure their phone and sensor are connected.

Clients with a standalone DQ-track device will have a coverage ratio of 100%. Clients with a coverage ratio above 90% will be rounded up to a 100% coverage ratio, and their Vitality Car Rating boost will not be prorated.

The following criteria must be met for a vehicle to qualify for the Vitality Car Rating:

  • The vehicle must be on Vitality Drive with a working telematics device for at least one year.
  • The vehicle must have a full service history.
  • The vehicle must be in good condition without major structural damage.

Yes. Classic and antique vehicles do not qualify, as well as vehicles with a retail value greater than R1.2 million.

"Good condition" means that the vehicle does not need any reconditioning or roadworthy-related repairs, such as new tyres.

The dealer may choose not to purchase the vehicle or they may deduct the cost of reconditioning and roadworthy repairs from the offer price. The Vitality Car Rating boost will then be applied to the revised offer price.

Yes, the vehicle must have a full service history completed by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or an approved dealer. If not, the dealership may choose not to purchase the vehicle or revise the base price before applying the boost.

Not necessarily. The dealership has the discretion to decide whether to accept your Vitality Car Rating when the vehicle is valued at more than R1.2 million.

Use of the Vitality Car Rating certificate

The Vitality Car Rating certificate is a document provided by Discovery Insure that verifies your vehicle and the Vitality Car Rating boost that you have earned. It contains the scoring details of your Vitality Car Rating, as well as your vehicle's detailed accident history. When you sell your vehicle, this is the document you will give to one of our partnered dealerships to receive your Vitality Car Rating boost.

Discovery Insure has partnered with Weelee and Motus to give you access to a wide range of dealerships who recognise the Vitality Car Rating. Clients can produce their Vitality Car Rating certificate at any of these dealerships to get a boosted resale value.

The Vitality Car Rating boost is applied to the base resale value, minus the cost of any work that needs to be done on the vehicle (eg, replacing the tyres). If a client negotiates a higher price, the boost will still only apply only to the original base price.

You can contact Discovery Insure on 0860 751 751 to request your Vitality Car Rating certificate.

This is unlikely to happen, but there may be an issue with one of the claims assessments done on your vehicle. If this is the case, the problem will be resolved and a Vitality Car Rating certificate will be issued to you within three business days.

Motus uses GetWorth's pricing engine to determine the base price. GetWorth provides a range of values based on the vehicle's mileage, service history, and structural or mechanical damage. Weelee uses the trade value of the vehicle adjusted for mileage, which is provided by TransUnion. You can get an estimate of your vehicle's base price by visiting Motus or Weelee's website, although this will be subject to an inspection of the vehicle.

The base price that you are given is calculated by Motus's pricing engine -
GetWorth - or sourced from TransUnion's retail value data for Weelee. You can also produce your certificate after a base price has been agreed on and an inspection of the vehicle is completed.

Your Vitality Car Rating certificate is valid for 31 days from the date that it is generated. Both the generated date and the expiry date appear on the certificate.

If it is a windscreen claim, you can get your Vitality Car Rating certificate. However, for other types of claims, you need to wait until the vehicle assessment is completed

The Vitality Car Rating certificate becomes invalid in line with its terms and conditions. You can generate a new certificate after the vehicle assessment for the claim is completed.

Discovery Insure links all Vitality Car Rating certificates to the vehicle using its VIN number.

Data use for the Vitality Car Rating

Yes. You can get your Vitality Car Rating boost in addition to the regular Vitality Drive rewards you receive for driving well.

No. The driving behaviour scores used for the Vitality Car Rating are calculated independently of your Vitality Drive status and do not affect your Vitality Drive rewards. The Vitality Car Rating's driving behaviour score is a comprehensive view of your entire driving history, while your Vitality Drive status is based on your previous month's driving profile and the other Vitality Drive points categories.

For example, your Vitality Car Rating driving behaviour score may be high due to a history of good driving behaviour, even if you drive poorly for one month and achieve a low Vitality Drive status.

Discovery Insure will account for all periods of data from when the vehicle was insured with us when generating a Vitality Car Rating certificate.
