Why do we love avocados?
A good source of fibre and heart-healthy fats, avocados help you feel fuller for longer and don't increase your blood cholesterol. Its neutral flavour makes it perfect for sauces, salads and salad dressing, sandwiches, grains and baked goods, adding a rich and creamy texture.
A whole medium avocado contains about 240 calories, 13 g carbohydrate, 22 g fat, and 10 g fibre. Plus, they're rich in vitamin B, C, E, and K as well as folate, potassium, magnesium and carotenoids.

How to pick the perfect avocado
If you want to use an avocado immediately, choose a ripe one with dark green or almost black skin. If the fruit is very firm with light green skin, you may need to ripen it for a few days at home. If the skin is shrivelled, mushy or covered in dents, it may be overripe.

How to keep your avocados fresher for longer
It takes about two to three days for avocadoes with a hard green flesh to ripen at room temperature. Want to speed up the ripening?
- Put your unripe avocados in direct sunlight
- Seal an unripe avocado in a paper bag with a banana
Once you've cut into an avocado, the flesh can turn brown very quickly. It may not look so good but it's still perfectly fine to eat.

To keep a cut avo fresh, you can:
- Brush it with olive oil.
- Cover it with lemon or lime juice.
- Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap.

- Don't try to ripen an unripe avocado by heating it up in the microwave or oven.
- Don't store a cut avocado in water or other fluids that may contaminate the edible flesh.
