Are you using your WELLTH Fund yet? Here's how to access this preventive screening benefit
We provide an easy-to-use guide for how to access and view your WELLTH Fund allocation, as well as outline what you and your family can use it for here.
At the beginning of this year (January 2023), Discovery Health Medical Scheme made available a new benefit, called the WELLTH Fund to help all members and their loved ones better take care of their health needs. This once-in-a-lifetime, discretionary benefit is designed to enable you to invest in your health through a selection of preventive screenings and is available until end December 2024.
The WELLTH Fund is making available up to R10,000 in screening funding per family. Each member on a policy has access to allocated funds in the following ways:
- Adults (18 years and older) will have an allocation of R2,500 each
- Children (2-18 years of age) will have an allocation of R1,250 each
How can you unlock your WELLTH Fund?
Going for quick and simple Health Check can be the greatest investment you make in yours and your family's future health. Not only are these checks fully covered annually for all Discovery Health Medical Scheme members through the existing Screening and Prevention Benefit, when you and the dependents on your plan go for your preventive screening, you automatically unlock additional screening cover through the WELLTH Fund - a once-off, additional risk benefit that offers up to R10 000 per family, for a better understanding of your healthcare needs and the opportunity to address them.
How can you unlock your WELLTH Fund?
The real value of this benefit becomes active when each member (over the age of two) books and goes for their all-important Health Check. It's that simple and we don't require anything else from you. When you take the necessary step to check your blood pressure, blood glucose levels, cholesterol, BMI and HIV status, as well as complete the online Kids Health Review for your littles ones, your family's fund allocation is automatically activated. Simple as that.
So, how can you view your fund allocation?
Discovery Health Medical Scheme has made available a dashboard for your ease of reference and it's simple to access. All you need to do is:
1. Log in to your membership profile on https://www.discovery.co.za/medical-aid/wellth-fund - Enter your unique username and password
2. Navigate to "View your dashboard" on Discovery Health Medical Scheme's WELLTH Fund page
3. View your balance bar - a personalised breakdown at the top of the dashboard page. Here you will see:
- Confirmation that your Health Check has indeed unlocked your WELLTH Fund. If yours appears greyed out, but you have completed your Health Check, it could be that not all members on your policy have yet completed theirs. Once every member has completed their Health Check, the fund will be fully unlocked for all members on your policy to use.
- A total allocation amount
- A figure for how much has been used so far
- A figure for how much is remaining
- Or a fully depleted fund
4. A wheel of healthy benefits - Beneath your funds balance bar, you'll find a wheel of services. This will give you an idea as to what preventive screening health checks your WELLTH Fund can be claimed against. You will note various health screening categories. Work your way around the wheel by clicking on each category to view a list of relevant preventive checks available for funding:
- Physical health
- General health
- Mental health
- Children's health
- Women's health
- Men's health
From here, you can strategically identify which health screening needs are most important for you and each member of your family on your policy. Perhaps you've all not been for a dental check up in a while - this could be an important screening to use your WELLTH Fund for. Do you have a parent dependent? Perhaps a hearing and eye check up will be a good use of your funds for these loved ones. The screening opportunities available are many but can be prioritised according to your individual needs. Perhaps your Health Check flags something a physical health category check can be booked for further investigation. How you strategically use your fund is entirely up to you and what you identify as priority needs.
Here's a little more on what the WELLTH Fund can cover for you and your family.
