The aim of our Fund's objective for human capital and skills development programme is to improve human resources and contribute to strengthening the delivery of quality health services.
We support initatives and organisations that provide: accredited pre-service training, deploy primary healthcare teams to provide for families and communities; in-service training that is aimed and improve the quality of healthcare provided within the public health system.
Umthombo Youth Development Foundation (Kwa-Zulu Natal)
One of our flagship programmes, The Umthombo Youth Development Foundation trains and supports youth from rural KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape to become qualified healthcare professionals. The aim is to address the shortage of qualified healthcare staff at rural hospitals, thereby improving the healthcare services provided to the indigent rural population.
Hospice Palliative Care Association
(Western Cape)
The Discovery Fund has supported the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa in establishing national and provincial development structures aimed specifically at the support and capacity building of Hospice and, more recently, of partner organisations to provide quality palliative care.
Paediatric Palliative Care
(Western Cape)
Palliative Care for Children South Africa is supported by the Discovery Fund to deliver an accredited short-course on paediatric palliative care and develop additional e-learning courses on various paediatric palliative care topics for their e-learning platform.
HIVSA (Gauteng)
HIVSA is supported by the Discovery Fund to provide accredited training to community health workers, HIV counsellors, HIV peer educators, social workers, nurses, and other personnel in community-based organisations.
