Boost your car's resale value with the Vitality Car Rating
Love looking after your car and driving carefully? Then you're going to love the Vitality Car Rating - Discovery Insure's exciting new benefit that helps you get more cash for your car when it's time to sell.
Your brand-new car's value drops as soon as you drive it off the showroom floor. Recent research by BusinessTech showed that popular 2024 models of well-known car brands could lose up to 8% of their floor value with as little as 10 km to 50 km on the clock.
You can't prevent your car's depreciation, but with Discovery Insure and Vitality Drive, you will soon be able to boost its resale value by up to 15% when you decide to sell it and this is over and above the regular rewards you get for driving well.
While it's true that you can't prevent your car from losing its value, you can reduce the impact by how you drive.
Discovery Insure's data shows that good drivers are less likely to claim for vehicle breakdowns than poor drivers. That's because good drivers also tend to look after their cars. This means that when it's time to sell, their vehicles are generally in better condition - so good driving behaviour results in a higher resale value.
However, even if you're a good driver, this doesn't necessarily mean you'll get what your vehicle should be worth. That's because the dealer you sell to uses a standardised industry market value that, although useful, doesn't take your vehicle's full picture into account. They usually look at its physical condition, mileage, and service history, but not how it was driven.
That's where Discovery Insure's Vitality Car Rating comes in.
Introducing Discovery Insure's Vitality Car Rating
The Vitality Car Rating is a market-first approach that accurately measures your vehicle's condition based on data we have from underwriting and accident and repair claims. Importantly, it also uses driving behaviour data (accessed through Vitality Drive's advanced telematics) to measure how and where your vehicle was driven.
Using advanced actuarial techniques, we can translate this complex data into a simple, but accurate, vehicle rating that measures its true condition.
Vehicles on Vitality Drive will get a score out of 1,000 based on key measures that impact vehicle condition, such as claims history, driving behaviour, and whether the vehicle was driven on open roads. Based on this score, vehicles get a rating from one to five, with five being the rating for vehicle in the best condition.
In line with Discovery Insure's shared-value philosophy, the Vitality Car Rating benefits are available to you over and above the regular Vitality Drive rewards you get for driving well.
What happens when you want to sell your car?
Clients (except those on a Core Plan) who have been on Vitality Drive for at least one year and with a telematics device installed (so that we are receiving your driving information) qualify for this benefit.
When a client wants to sell a vehicle, qualifying clients can contact Discovery Insure to request their Vitality Car Rating and corresponding resale value boost. All you need to do is to visit an accredited partner dealership in the Discovery Insure network which includes Weelee and Motus (with over 300 dealers and brands under Motus) to unlock the boosted resale value. Through the Vitality Car Rating you could get a boost of up to 15% on that value - just for driving well.
Here's to getting more value for your car when it's time to part with your wheels.
