The PPSV vaccination prevents pneumococcal infection that causes serious condition like pneumonia and meningitis. It is recommended that adults, 65 years and older, have the vaccination to reduce the risk of pneumonia.

Need to know
Earn Vitality points
- All Vitality members who are 65 years and older will earn Vitality points for having a Pneumococcal vaccination (PPSV).
- Vitality members earn up to 2 000 Vitality points per life time. 1 000 points will be awarded for the initial PPSV vaccination and another 1 000 points will be awarded for the booster dose.
- There are two PPSV vaccinations available for the first dose. Eligible members will earn points for either one of the two up to a maximum of 1 000 points.
- If you are claiming the cost of this vaccination from a medical scheme administered by Discovery Health you do not need to submit proof as points will be awarded automatically. Please allow 7 days for your points to reflect.
- If not, submit proof of your vaccination on the Claim Vitality Points page for your points to be awarded. Make sure the NAPPI code for the vaccine is shown so we can allocate the points. Please allow 48 hours for processing, you can then check that these points have been awarded on your Vitality Points Tracker.

Paying for the vaccination
If you are a member of a scheme administered by Discovery Health, you can claim for vaccinations from the available funds in your Medical Savings Account. The costs do not count towards the Annual Threshold.
