THE DISCOVERY FOUNDATION EXCELLENCE AWARD

THE Purpose

The engagement may include research and innovation, education and training, medical practice or healthcare practice, strengthening of the health system, or other forms of development in these communities.

THE GRANT

This award is a single grant of up to R1 million.

The award will be paid directly to the organisation or institution.

Selection criteria

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Organisations must be actively engaged in work that improves healthcare delivery in disadvantaged communities in South Africa, whether through research and development, training, innovation, medical practice or upgrading healthcare services.

Consideration will be given to notfor-profit organisations, public sector health facilities and universities that have shown excellence in education, training, service delivery or development in support of healthcare.

Such initiatives may include recruitment and the support for and retention of healthcare professionals that contribute directly to the organisation applying for the Discovery Foundation Excellence Award.

Evidence of a proven track record of success for a minimum of two years is essential.

Demonstrating impact is desirable.

Application process

WHAT YOU NEED

Please note: Mandated representatives of short-listed applicants must be available for an interview, if required.

Applicants must be based in and operate in South Africa.

Where possible, evidence of the impact of the organisation’s work should be provided

Applicants must complete the application form for the excellence award.

Terms of funding

the fine print

This is a once-off monetary award of up to R1 million.

The award will be paid directly to the successful organisation or institution.

Reporting

WHAT WE NEED

The recipient will be required to send a detailed written progress report within 15 months showing how the funding was used, the benefits of the projects and the lessons learned.

A senior representative from the organisation may need to attend a function to report on the organisation’s progress.

A full narrative and financial report must be submitted to the Discovery Foundation at the end of the award period.
