Having worked her way up from a young Call Centre agent to become the Head of Client Services, Hawa is the perfect example of what it means to defy gravity.
Living to lead
Hawa joined Discovery in 2000. She was just 19 years old, but she knew that this was the company she wanted to work for. She applied throughout the organisation, and managed to get into the first call centre for Discovery Life.
Maintaining standards
Having graduated from the Call Centre, Hawa joined the QA team, which became her home for the next few years.
"In 2003 I decided that Leadership was what I wanted to do and I worked towards achieving this goal" she recalls.
That journey started within the QA team, but took her back to her roots and led to the call centre, which like Hawa, was growing.
Attitude and altitude
"I have a passion for service delivery and believe in Discovery, our people, our values, and products. It is this that continues to motivate and drive me to deliver my very best consistently."
Even when she faces challenges – and we all do - Hawa is always positive and no matter what obstacle she is faced with, she stays focused and continues to deliver.
Focussed on focus
To defy gravity, Hawa has learnt to block out the "noise" - the usual office banter, politics, and occasional negativity.
But this doesn’t mean that she isolates herself completely. Like most Discovery people, Hawa feeds off others’ positive and friendly energies. She tries to gain knowledge from others, which she uses in her day-to-day to get the tasks done.
Breaking boundries
Hawa is motivated to keep breaking boundaries by the success of Discovery, our people and behind the scenes – her family.
"I also know and understand my purpose at Discovery. I am very persistent in that when I want to achieve something, sometimes I’m like a horse with blinkers – I’m very focused on the goal ahead until what I want is achieved."
